The APL of The Heroes of Starsong Tower is 8, so Gaw adds 7 more d6s (it’s HD and Con bonus too) to gain more hit points to be really hardy for adventuring. Levelling up a sidekick is as easy as consulting the sidekick class advancement chart and adding more Hit Dice (HD). A 1st level sidekick has all the statistics outlined in it’s stat block, including special attacks (like the cockatrice’s petrifying bite). The starting level of the side kick is equal to the Average Party Level (APL) of the adventuring party.
